Getting My Learn On

So I've decided to go back to school. Since I'm a disabled veteran, I'm eligible for 36 months of tuition assistance through the VA. I have my preliminary teaching license in Massachusetts, but it is pretty much useless. It basically just gives me some time to get my initial license, which I can use to actually teach. So I'm going to use my 36 months of tuition assistance to get my Master's in Elementary Education. It will probably only take 24 months at the most. I can then transfer the rest to Craig or to CJ, which is pretty sweet.

My whole life I've been told that I'd be a great teacher. My best friend tells me this all the time, but I've always brushed it off. It wasn't until I was in the Army that I realized that I was probably meant to be a teacher. The only time I didn't hate life was when I was in charge of teaching a class on something. So I hope this will be a good choice.

My preliminary licenses are in English 5-8 and 8-12. I figure with a Master's in Elementary Education, I'll be able to teach just about anything. :) I think that I would prefer middle graders. I loved being that age, and for the most part, I love kids that age. They're still young enough to believe that they can be anything, but old enough to learn more advanced things. I'd also be ok with elementary because it would tons of fun to start kids on their path to learning. Then again, I'd love high schoolers because then I could teach them some great literature. I can't wait to get started really.

Anywho, I'm telling you this so you'll all wish me good luck on my GREs today. They start at 1230 Eastern time. So think of me then. :-D I did not study one bit and I'm not at all concerned. It isn't that I'm super confident that I'm going to do amazingly. I just do not have the ability to freak out over tests. I just can't do it. Anytime my brain knows that a test is coming, I go into this weird mellow zen mode. I couldn't be concerned about the test if I tried. And I've tried in the past. SATs, I sat there for months trying to psyche myself up and convince myself to study more. I could not do it. (I got a 1350 in case you were wondering.) So if I fail miserably, I'll probably be kicking myself in the butt.

In somewhat related news, has anyone ever used the Before Five in a Row program? I'd love to take a look at it for CJ. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it. Pin It

City Mouse Lost in the Country

So I'm thinking I might have to change the name of my blog to City Mouse Moves to the Country. I kid of course, but I am so out of my element here. We just moved to Derry NH which isn't even all that country, but for a girl raised in the ghetto, I feel like I'm living on a dude ranch. There was a beaver/otter/gopher creature of some kind in our backyard all this afternoon. Just chilling out there eating the weeds. It was ginormous. I have no idea what it was. It's face kind of looked like a cross between a bear and a raccoon? Any ideas?

Also, the bugs? I have never seen so many bugs. The first time I left the light on the porch on, I could see all the bugs swarming around it. I felt like that scene in the Mist where the giant bugs are about to crash through the grass. Ugh. Bugs are gross. Then there's the darkness. I've never lived somewhere that gets completely dark at night. Like pitch black. It is going to take some getting used to. At night, our yard is darker than the sky. It's pretty eerie.

Finally, there's the fact that we might have some poison ivy in the backyard. I was picking all the weeds, and there were a lot of them. I started to pick a weed when I realized that it had three leaves. Since I've never in my life seen poison ivy, I had to ask Craig. We aren't positive, but we are erring on the side of caution and assuming that it is. Also, apparently I am not allergic since I picked it up before I realized what it was. I don't want CJ touching it. With his allergies, it's pretty much guaranteed that he'd have a reaction. Take a look at the pictures country folk. Is it poison?

So that's what I've been up to for the last few weeks. Moving ourselves into the house. We have a lot of stuff, and CJ likes to be in the center of anything. It is impossible to accomplish anything with a two year old around, so the unpacking is probably going to take until we move again. I will have some reviews and giveaways coming up, so stay tuned. Also give me some advice on living in the country, if you have any.

Short Hiatus

We are moving to NH this weekend, and we won't have internet up there for a few days. Plus with all the moving, I just might not have time to blog. So I'm going to have a short hiatus from blogging. I'll still be able to answer emails and moderate giveaways. Plus I'll have the time to catch up with writing reviews and reading, so I should have a ton of new material ready for you when I get home. I hope to be back around the 10th. So I'll see you then.

A-Z Mini Challenge #5 - Mother May I?

How is everyone doing on the challenge so far? I'm starting to realize that I need to start purposely choosing my books to fill in the blanks I have left. It seems like every book I have starts with S. I have so many books, I know I must have one for every letter of the alphabet. Let me know in the comments which letters you are having trouble with. :)

So since Mother's Day is May 13th, for this month's challenge, read a book with a mother in it. There's tons of books about families and familial relationships, so this should be easy. She doesn't have to be a main character, but should play some sort of role in the story.

So Lianne from The Towering Pile cleverly asked if "The Mummy" would count and my reply is... hellz yes. If there is a mummy in the book, you can use it. I want this challenge to be fun and easy. :)
