Usually on Saturdays, I participate in TBR Tuesday. I'm behind in my book reviews, so I'm going to be skipping TBR Tuesday until January. Sorry guys!
For my 30 day book challenge, the topic is my favorite writer. I don't think I have any one favorite author. I used to be obsessed with Alexandre Dumas, but I think I'm better now. I love Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Mark, Twain, etc, but I don't know if I'd say that one of them is my favorite. For a while, my favorite contemporary author was Phillipa Gregory. I devoured everything that she wrote as soon as it came out. I still read her books, just not as voraciously. I think currently my favorite author would be Michelle Moran. As soon as I read her book Cleopatra's Daughter, I went out and got the rest of them : Nefertiti, The Heretic Queen, and Madame Tussaud. She has the same ability as Phillipa Gregory to put you back in time with the characters. I've also been getting a little fangirl regarding Neil Gaiman lately. I'm also a huge Stephen King fan. I'd probably faint if I ever met him. Anywho, so there's my answer. All of them basically!

Day 12 – A book you used to love but don’t anymore
I haven't forgotten about you, 30 Day Book Challenge. Today is day 12: a book you used to love but don't anymore.
I wouldn't say there are books that I used to love and don't anymore. But there are books that I used to be obsessed with and have outgrown.
All of R.L.Stine's books. I used to read Goosebumps to my little sister. I was obsessed with all the Fear Street books, especially the Fear Street Saga. I think the Fear Street Saga was what made me interested in historical fiction. They're great books, just made for a slightly younger audience than the late-20's I am now. Pin It

Day 11 – A book you hated
Day 11- A book You Hated
Well, I already wrote about my disdain for Wuthering Heights in another post. BTW WUTHERING ISN'T EVEN A WORD! Gah, I really do hate that book.
Another book I hate, is Waiting for Godot. I'm pretty sure I talked about that in the same post though.... But I'll talk about it again.
Here's the Goodreads' description: The story line revolves around two seemingly homeless men waiting for someone or something named Godot. Vladimir and Estragon wait near a tree on a barren stretch of road, inhabiting a drama spun from their own consciousness. The result is a comical wordplay of poetry, dreamscapes, and nonsense, which has been interpreted as a somber summation of mankind's inexhaustible search for meaning. Beckett's language pioneered an expressionistic minimalism that captured the existentialism of post-World War II Europe.
Here's what that description just told you: This book (play) is about nothing. NOTHING. Nothing happens, ever. It's supposed to be existential and deep and meaningful but it really isn't. It's a stupid book and I will never get the 20 minutes of my life back that I spent reading this drivel. I had to read it for some ridiculous English class in college and I hated every second of it. I told the professor that too but she wasn't happy about that. I also wrote my paper on how stupid it was and how wrong Beckett was. I got an A on that because my evidence was irrefutable. That's the key to college kids. You can say whatever you want, you just need to have the evidence to back it up. Pin It

Day 10 - Favorite Classic Book
I'd almost forgotten about my 30 Day Book Challenge. Here is number 10 - Favorite Classic book
This is a toughie since classics are my favorite genre next to historical fiction. I already used Gone with the Wind and The Three Musketeers. So for this I'm going to go with Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. I've always felt like I could relate to Pip. He comes from nothing, has a rough childhood. No one really believes in him, so he has no choice but to believe in himself.
Miss Havisham is an awesome character. She is an old lady who was left at the altar by her fiance. She never changed out of her wedding dress or even took down the decorations. Her wedding cake is still sitting in the middle of the table she eats off of. I always get an awesome visual when I imagine her. She has an adopted daughter named Estella who Pip is madly in love with. Since she was raised by Miss Havisham, she has been taught not to love and to just use and abuse men. Pip knows this but can't resist her.
The book, like most of Dickens' works, has all manner of unsavory characters. There's an escaped convict that sets Pip's life on the path it eventually goes on. It's a really good book, and I highly recommend. Hence it being my favorite classic. Pin It

Day 09 – A book you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving

Surprisingly, the book I resisted reading for the longest time, was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. When the books first came out, many of my friends read them and were obsessed. Being the rebel that I am, I resisted their call. Why would I want to read a book about a little boy who becomes a wizard?! Obviously, I know now that I DEFINITELY want to read books about a little boy who becomes a wizard. The Harry Potter series is amazing. I feel like I don't even have to go and explain my love for Harry Potter. It's nothing that you all haven't heard a million times before. The Harry Potter series changed a generation. It's our Star Wars.

Day 08 – Most overrated book
Day 08 - Most Overrated Book
There is a book, which is considered a "classic", that I despise with the fire of 1000 suns. I had to read it in high school, I had to read it TWICE in college. It is considered one of the great "romances". I HATE THIS BOOK!
This book is Wuthering Heights. There is nothing, and I mean, NOTHING, romantic about this ridiculous book. This book is about the weird, dysfunctional, incestual relationship between a bunch of weird hillbillies living in the moors of I don't even know where. I really didn't like Twilight, and one of the main reasons I really didn't like Twilight is that somehow, Wuthering Heights was made out to be this great romance. No. Nothing about this book is romantic. Ugh. I can't even describe to you how much I hate this book.
This book makes me so mad, I can't even write a synopsis. This is what goodreads' has to say, "An intriguing tale of revenge in which the main characters are controlled by consuming passions." I'm not even putting up a picture of the cover because I don't want it to taint my blog. Pin It

Most underrated book - Wideacre
Day 07 - Most Underrated Book
A lot of people are big fans of historical fiction author Philippa Gregory. Her biggest hits are her Tudor series, mostly centering on the Boleyns, which starts (time-wise) with The Constant Princess. The most famous of the series is obviously The Other Boleyn Girl. I think the most underrated book is from her Wideacre series. I'm a big fan of the first one called surprisingly Wideacre.
The book series follows the Lacey family. Wideacre begins the series with Beatrice Lacey. She's beautiful and strong-minded and desperate to escape the constrictions imposed on her in the 18th century. Knowing that once she is wed, she will lose herself as well as her home, she goes to drastic measures to ensure her ancestral heritage. She will use seduction, betrayal, murder, and even incest to get what she wants. The book will keep you riveted the entire time. The series continues with The Favored Child and Meridon. I think that I actually began the series with The Favored Child and then went back to Wideacre.
These books were my first introduction to the wonderful world of Philippa Gregory. She has the most amazing ability to bring you back in time. She can make you feel pity for the most vile of humans and hate the most innocent. She is just a wonderful author. I recommend almost any of her books. Pin It

A book that makes you sad - The Outsiders
Easy. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. This is the most beautiful, saddest book I've ever read. There's a certain part (you know it if you've read it) that makes me cry every. single. time. I'm not talking little tears. I'm talking body-wracking sobs of despair. I've always been amazed that this book was written by a teenager. I'm 27 and I have a hard time writing this blog, let alone an actual legitimate book.
The book centers around Ponyboy, his brothers Sodapop and Darry, and their gang of friends. They are members of a gang known as "greasers" and their enemies are the preppy uptown kids, known as the "Socs" for "socialites". The two groups only interact to fight each other in what they call "skinfights". This all changes one night when Ponyboy and his friends meet Cherry, the girlfriend of one of the Socs. No, this isn't a romance. They don't fall in love and everyone lives happily ever after. But through their interaction, Ponyboy has to grow up just a little bit. The consequences of befriending Cherry greatly affect his life and the lives of everyone around them.
"Stay gold Ponyboy. Stay gold." Aaaand commence tears.
Ps. My baby sister read this in high school. She remembered that I had read it over and over again and cried every time. She read the entire book waiting to burst into tears. When she never did, she called me asking what the heck had made me cry so bad. Therefore, my sister has no soul.
