Fun Meme Friday

1. Would you grow your hair out to cut it?
Last year, I grew my hair out forever. When I finally went in to get it cut, I was really hoping that it was long enough to donate. It was an inch too short :( I was sad. My sister-in-law's boyfriend is currently growing his hair out to donate it. He found a place that will take 8 inches instead of 10, so I think he's cutting it this weekend. I'm growing my hair out right now so I can perm it for my birthday.

2. What song makes you think of summer?
Will Smith's "Getting Jiggy with It" and obviously, his "Summertime". Also, New Kids on the Block's Summertime. Country music makes me think of summer too - open air, hanging out at the beach, relaxing music.

3. Are you a flip flops or sandals kind of person.
If I could find some sandals that didn't make me look like I'm either on safari or a hippie, I would love them. Until then I'll wear uncomfortable flip flops.

4. Favorite summer treat?
Good old fashioned ice cream. There's nothing like it at the end of a hot summer day.
I wish I could share that with CJ, but until he gets over his milk allergy, none for him.

5. Do you do something special for the father of your children?
I'll let Bubba sleep in and make him breakfast. That's really all we have planned.

Who is your favorite father from a book series?

Mr. Weasley from Harry Potter! That's probably going to be a really common answer. Also, Mr. O'Hara and Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind. I always loved how dedicated a father Rhett was, even though in that time period, fathers weren't very hands-on. He didn't care that he had a girl and not a boy. "What use are boys anyway?" I loved the dad from The Lovely Bones too. But I can't think about that movie or it makes me cry.

Weekly Reading Recap
I'm currently reading Darkening Dream, a great YA paranormal book. It took a bit to get into it, but now that the story is picking up, I love it. CJ has been reading a ton of picture books, including The Giving Tree and My Father The Dog. I'm also reading The Bloggess' memoir which is ridiculously funny. What are you reading this week?

Fun Meme Friday

That Friday Blog Hop

I feel like I haven't done fun meme Friday in forever. Here goes.

1. Are you a napper? Helllz yes. I could sleep all day everyday. I am a sleep connoisseur. I am the queen of sleep. I nap with CJ for approximately 2 hours every day. If we don't nap, we get grumpy.

2. What was your favorite subject in school? Most hated? I loved English and Latin. I love learning languages. I really wish I had the time to continue to learn Latin and Arabic. My least favorite subject was usually history or science. I am a huge history and science nerd, but most of the teachers I had were really boring. Plus I hated learning just the books' version of history. I despise biology. It just grosses me out.

3. Did you have something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue at your wedding?  I did, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. I think the something new was my dress, the something old was an embroidered handkerchief, the something borrowed... I don't remember, and the something blue, I think my flowers were wrapped in blue ribbon. You would think I'd remember that stuff huh?

4. What is one thing you are determined to do this summer? Not waste it. Here in New England, we don't always get a really long summer so we have to take advantage of it while we can. I'm also determined to get my driver's license, but that requires people's help and that isn't always easy to depend on.

5. Ice cream or popsicles? Ice cream definitely. I love ice cream. I could eat it everyday all day. Yum yum yum.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. We will be enjoying the lovely green mountains of Vermont and attending the wedding of one of Craig's old college friends. Enjoy your weekend, and don't forget to remember the fallen soldiers who this holiday is in memory of.

Fun Meme Friday

Book Blogger Retreat: If you could gather up a handful of book blogger friends to spend a weekend away talking books, where would you go? Tell us about it.

Let's go to the beach y'all. A nice warm white sand, blue ocean beach. We can do some reading, some chit-chatting, some swimming. It'll be a good time. Or we could go to England and find all the places written about. That'd be cool too.

What giveaway would you like to do on your blog?
Sometimes I would like to give away my baby. I kid I kid. But everyone has those days right? Where you think about selling your baby to the circus? I'm not alone in this right?

If you had to choose between natural athletic ability or natural artistic ability, which would you choose?
Definitely artistic ability. I figure that eventually, even if you are athletic, your body will start to wear down. Artistic ability is forever. Plus i've always wanted to be able to create beautiful art.

Do you ditch the coat the minute it becomes Spring?
I wish. Here in New England, you need a coat until about July. Yay. (sense the sarcasm?)

What would you do if you won the mega millions lottery of 1/2 billion dollars?
I would pay off Craig and I's student loans. Then I would take 1 million and put it directly in the bank. Never touch it until CJ goes to college. I would buy a new car, not a brand new crazy expensive car, but a nicer car than we've got now. Then we'd go about buying a house. Again, not a crazy fancy expensive house, but a nice house we can make a home in.

You are at a hotel by yourself, what do you do?
Sleep!!

Do you read one book at a time or do you go back and forth?
If I get really into a book, I read it  from start to finish really quickly. If I like it, but it is hard to read, sometimes I take a break with something easier. CJ (the baby) and I read books all day long, so there's that too.  Pin It

Fun Meme Friday

What is the longest book you've read? What are your favorite 600+ page reads.

Gone with the wind is one of my favorite books, I've read it numerous times. It clocks in at 1011 pages. To me, it doesn't seem that long because it is so well written. Other long favorites of mine are the last few Harry Potter books (I'm sure everyone will have that answer.) I just finished A Dance with Dragons, the fifth Game of Thrones/Song of Fire and Ice book and it was 1041 pages. It was my least favorite of all the Game of Thrones books. They're all over 1000 pages, but they are all really good. I never want them to stop. DO YOU HEAR ME GEORGE?! The Lord of The Rings are awesome, but technically those are three 400 page books. Anything by Alexandre Dumas is amazing, like The Count of Monte Cristo (1200 pages, wtf?) and The Three Musketeers (which depends on your edition but is almost exactly 600 pages).

1. If you were free to just hop in a car or a plane and go, where would you go?
I would go to Colorado to visit my aunt. I missez her.
2. What's your most recently read favorite book?
I finished A Dance with Dragons by George RR Martin a few nights ago, and it was awesome. Obviously. George is still evil. My favorite characters are still alive. For now. (I'm not keeping my hopes up that this will continue.) One did actually end the book being stabbed, so he might be a goner.
3. What's your favorite Spring break memory?
I never did anything fancy for Spring break, so nothing much.
4. What do you put in your child's Easter basket?
My grandmother always made our baskets herself, instead of buying the ready-made wrapped in plastic ones. She didn't make the actual basket herself, she just filled it herself. So I'm going to do the same with CJ. I'll probably buy a basket, then go to Target and the dollar store and fill it up with goodies. I'm also going to fill eggs (with something besides chocolate since that will kill him) and hide them. Can't wait!
5. Do you get a summer haircut?
Usually, but my goal this year is to go an entire year without cutting my hair. I'm probably going to have it permed around my birthday (in June), so we shall see.
What are some bookish trends you are noticing in the literature world today? Are there any that you'd like to see more of?

Sooooooooooooooooo much YA. Almost too much. It is fine if they are well-written and good stories, but it seems like everyone wants to be the next Harry Potter or the next Twilight. Which brings me to the next trend. Too much paranormal romance. If well-written, they can be awesome. If not, they are just horrible. I can't even read paranormal romance anymore. I think had I been a teenager when this trend started, I would've been all over it. But now it just annoys me. A trend I really like, are books for kids that adults can enjoy. Harry Potter is the best example obviously, but then there's Hugo Cabret and some others. So I'd be ok with more of that.

Fun Meme Friday

1. What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
Egypt is the most beautiful place I've ever been, so I'll go with there. I would love to go back to Sidi Abd El Raman, which I think might be the most beautiful place on the planet.

2. What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
Really bad television and pedicures.

3. What is your favorite fashion trend right now or in the past?
Uhmmm... flared leg jeans. Those are the only kind I wear. I would look ridiculous in both baggy pants and skinny jeans.

4. What are your spring break plans?
When is spring break? I have no plans.

5. What baby names do you hate?
I hate when names are misspelled, especially when it is done on purpose. I hate names like Mercedes or Precious. I have a cousin named Precious and I just think it is ridiculous. Precious is a word not a name.

What book would you like to see made into a movie/tv show and which actors/actresses do you have in mind?
There's this series called Harry Potter, you might have heard of it, and I think that this guy named Alan Rickman would be perfect for Severus Snape. Oh wait....
Hmmmm I would say Game of Thrones, but again, already done.
How about A Great and Terrible Beauty and the rest of the Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray? That would be sweet. I think I may have discussed this before. I would want the guy from Slumdog Millionaire to play Kartik. Hmmm, who could play Gemma? That's a tough one.... I might have to think about it and get back to you. But I would love to see Gemma Doyle on the big screen.

Fun Meme Friday!

Go count the number of books on your shelves. How many are there?

Uhmmm.... Do I have to tell you? I have over 122 print books on my shelves. I probably have more than 200 on my nookshelves. Hopefully when I get to heaven, all these books will be waiting for me to read. If we really do get to choose our heaven, mine will be a library filled with books.

What are some of your reading goals for the new year?

I am taking part of a bunch of challenges, so I'd like to finish those. I'd like to read at least a book a week. I'd like to finish all the books I have for review, and I'd like to read a lot of the books I have on my shelves.

What is the weather like where you are and do you like it?
I live in Massachusetts, and it is really cold right now. I don't like the cold, but this has been a really mild winter, so I'm not too bothered by it yet. If it stays this cold until April (which it probably will) I will change my mind about it.

When you are sick, what do you seek comfort from?
Bed. When I'm sick, all I want to do is sleep and shower. Showers sometimes make me feel better. I just lay down like I'm taking a bath and let the water wash over me.

What do you need to do before the end of the month?
Go to Sara-Marie and Mark's wedding! Wahooooooo! Other than that, nothing.

Have you ever served on a jury?
Funny you should ask. I never have, but I received a summons to jury duty for the first time this week. It's horse patootie. The hubby had to do it just last month. Gah! I don't wanna. Civic responsibility my butt.

If you could be an animal, what would you be and why?
Although I freaking hate birds with the utmost passion, I would want to be one. Just so that I could fly. Also poop all over everyone and everything and get away with it. True story.
