Top Ten Characters of 2011
I apologize that most of these are from the Game of Thrones/ Song of Fire and Ice series, but George has me wrapped around his little finger. His characters are awesome!
Cleopatra Selene - I feel like this was the year of Selene. First I read Cleopatra's Daughter, then Lily of the Nile and its sequel Song of the Nile. I think there was another one in there too. She was a great character in all of the books.

Favorite quote: "Never forget who you are, for surely the world won’t. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you." or "Lord Tywin Lannister, in the end, did not shit gold."
game of thrones". I know that technically that can't happen since he is now on the Wall and is part of the Night's Watch, but a girl can dream. I'm ridiculously jealous of Ygritte even though she's dead now. Best quote : “Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.”
Gregor Clegane/ The Hound (Game of Thrones) - To me, The Hound is THE tragic hero of the Game of Thrones series. Underneath that face half burnt off by his brother and his cruel exterior, is a good man who just never got the chance to be a good man. He's gone by where I am in the series, but I'm still holding out hope that he will reappear. Best quote : "There are no true knights, no more than there are gods. If you can't protect yourself, die and get out of the way of those who can. Sharp steel and strong arms rule this world, don't ever believe any different."
Also from Game of Thrones/ A Song of Fire and Ice : Arya Stark, Brienne of Tarth, and Davos Seaforth.
Nefertari from The Heretic Queen - Nefertari is looked down upon for being part of the old heretical family and only wants to be free to be herself. She was gorgeously written and so relate-able. I loved her in this book. Pin It
