Join my A-Z Book Challenge!

In 2011, I challenged myself to read a book starting with each letter of the alphabet. Well, I failed, but just barely. So I've decided to re-challenge myself in 2012, and invite all of you along! So here goes.

Technical Stuff
This challenge will run from January 1st, 2012 until December 31st, 2012.
You can join anytime.
If you are blogger, leave the link to your actual post about this challenge.
If you are not a blogger, leave a link to where you will be keeping track of this challenge.

So there are two different ways you can set up your own A-Z challenge.

A - Make a list now of 26 books, picking one for each letter of the alphabet. For example: A - Atonement B- Black Beauty C - The Count of Monte Cristo D - Dances with Dragons etc.

OR

B - The lazy way (how I do it) : Make a list on your blog from A-Z. Throughout the year, as you go along, add the books you are reading to the list. Hope that by the end of the year you have read one book for each letter. Towards the end of the year, you can check and see which letters you are missing and find books to fit.

Each month, I will add another challenge to this main challenge. It might to read a book with both A and Z in the title or to read a book with 3 words that all start with the same letter. I might host a few random giveaways too for good measure. If you've got some idea for the mini-challenges, send them my way!

Since it is really hard to find titles beginning with X, the letter X just needs to be in the title somewhere.

So to join along....
1. Write a blog post about this challenge and whether you are going go with A or B.
2. Add the button to your blog.
3. Attach yourself to the linky.
4. Follow my blog so that you can see when I post the monthly challenge!

Thanks Liz for asking which kind of book blogs can join. Answer: ANY KIND. You don't even have to have a book blog. Any blog at all or no blog at all. All are welcome.

Thanks Darlene for asking and yes both e-books and audiobooks count.

  1. Not at all! YA/MG/Kids/Adults/Horror/Fantasy/ETC. All are welcome! Some of the monthly challenges might be to read one book from a specific genre, but your books your choice :)

  2. I've been hoping someone was going to host this challenge on their blog instead of Goodreads!

    Do ebooks and audiobooks count?

  3. Woo hoo, excellent! I'll prepare my sign-up post and link up!

    Thanks so much for hosting!!

  4. Are there any exceptions to the "X" entry? I noticed that the A-Z Reading Challenge on Goodreads permits the X to be anywhere in the title, not just the first word. What are your thoughts?

  5. That's probably a good idea. I will put that up there.

  6. Ok - I'm in. Quick Question though - Are we looking only for the First Word of a title to count, or any Main Word of a title? For Example: Would "The Mysteries of Udolpho" work for either M or U, or just M? Thanks for hosting!

  7. The first word counts unless it is a, an, or the. For your example, he Mysteries of Udolpho would count towards M only. Thanks for joining.

  8. That's is what I figured! Thank you for confirming!

  9. I'm in! I did one like it last year and had a great time. Looking forward to it.

  10. I like the sound of this one! I've joined...and linked up.

    I'm now following you.

Do you have an e-mail subscription as a possibility?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I don't yet, but I will have to look into that!

  12. I was sure I was not going to do any challenges in 2012 but I have succumbed, just about to prepare a post so I can link up. Also your latest follower. :)

  13. I want to do this! I don't have a blog. I guess that I could add a shelf to Goodreads for this challenge. Would that work?

  15. Absolutely. When you answer the monthly challenges you can just do it on goodreads and in a comment on my page. :)

  17. This sounds like fun, going to see how I do in 2012 without a lot of planning. Should be interesting.

  20. New Follower. Forgot in my other post so I am re-posting the entire post.

    This sounds fun. Question/s:

So I will list A-Z, but it has to have an A in the title or a B, etc?

Where do I put the post? Down the side or under a specific header? THANKS.

Not sure where I am to keep my list going.

THANK YOU. I will do the post after I have my answers. :)

  21. You'll read one book for each letter of the alphabet. You can put your post wherever you want on your blog. If you don't have a blog, you can keep track of it on goodreads or just in a word document. Hope that helps, thanks for joining!

    ReplyDelete
  22. THANKS...so it doesn't have to be the most current post, correct?

I was worried it had to be the current post. So we can just keep adding to it as the year goes on.

THANK YOU...this is going to be fun. I never did this before.

  23. At the end of the month, I'll post a linky where you can link up either where you are keeping track or a new post to talk about how many books you read towards it. That'll be completely up to you. Same with the monthly challenge. :)

  24. Ok..thank you.

I was going to put mine in a Google Document.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Okay, I've decided I'm definitely doing this. I'm going to go work on my list now.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey, what do you look at? Eg: If the book is 'The ABC Murders', then does that count as a T or as an A?

    ReplyDelete
  27. The ABC Murders would count for A. A, an, and the don't count.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm definitely going with choice B.

And I'm tweaking your challenge to fit my preference of genre - all my books will be mysteries!

  29. I forgot to let you know, but I am going to do this as well :)

  30. Hi, I'd like to join the challenge, but I can't find the linky. It says it's expired. Here's my post about it. http://falln2books.blogspot.com/2012/01/2010-arc-challenge.html

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  31. There, it is back up. I don't know why it disappeared for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Weird, I thought I signed up a while ago but I guess I didn't... Well it's in there now! :) I'm looking forward to this one.

    ReplyDelete
  33. There was a glitch with the linky, so you probably did. Sorry about that. Thanks for re-signing up!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Found this through a fellow blogger - brilliant idea! I look forward to seeing what everyone is reading :D

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am sorry if you have already mentioned this but are crossovers with other challenges allowed?

    ReplyDelete
  36. That's absolutely fine with me Neer. :) Thanks for asking.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks for the prompt reply. I have entered the challenge and have also become your follower.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Signed up! Do you have any recs for the letter Q?

    ReplyDelete
  39. There is a book called THE THIRD Q, but not sure if that is a T or a Q. :)

Stopping by to say hello again and to let everyone know about a giveaway on my blog.

Book Giveaway on my blog….THE WICKED WIVES.

Stop by and complete the entry form if you like.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think this is a fun game and that's why I have decided to join in, even if I have quite a bit of challenges going on already!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I just joined this! It seems like a pretty cool idea(:

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm signed up and choosing choice B for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hi!
I'm signed up as well! It's a great idea I'm so excited about it.
I just have a question: does it matter if some of my books are in French as well as in English?
    Thanks very much

  45. Thanks for having me. I'm going to do the challenge on Goodreads. It's easy for me to get all messed up on the computer. Know you have more than enough to do than worry about a person having trouble doing one thing or the other thing. Glad to have seen your blog. It's really cute. So, just cross me out. Thank you.

  46. Great challenge idea, joining up but sort of doing both options. I have some set up but need to find others. Also my computer had a glitch and I signed up twice...I couldn't figure out how to delete the one with just my name.

  47. I joined this challenge a while back I just hadn't updated it in a while so everything is up now! I'm excited to see everyone's progress at the end of the year. Thanks for hosting! What a great idea!
